PingLocate is a location request service built on consent. This page states what the service can and cannot do, and what it is not for. If you are not sure about anything here, read it before you use the service.

What PingLocate is

PingLocate sends a text with a link to a phone number you provide. If the person opens the link and accepts, their location is shared with you. That is the entire mechanic.

What PingLocate is not

Not a secret tracker. We cannot obtain a location without the person’s action. We do not access their phone, their account, or their carrier.
Not a guarantee. A request may go unanswered, be declined, or fail to deliver. A result may be approximate.
Not surveillance. We provide a single point at the moment of consent, not continuous monitoring.
Not an emergency service. For a missing person, a medical emergency, or a crime in progress, contact local emergency services. PingLocate is not a substitute for 911 or your local equivalent.

Accuracy

The location shown is only as accurate as the other person’s device reports. With GPS, results are usually within tens of meters. Without GPS, a network estimate can be several kilometers off. We show the accuracy range with each result. Do not rely on an approximate result as if it were exact.

Lawful use

You are responsible for using PingLocate lawfully. In many places, a location obtained through the other person’s informed consent is lawful, while secretly tracking someone is not. Nothing on this site is legal advice. If you have doubts, consult a lawyer in your jurisdiction.
